Release 8.55

This release lets every theme go dark, gives the calendar a Trash, and widens what deputies, shared accounts and cross-context sharing can do. The AI assistant now answers with tables and charts, and AI clients of your own choosing can connect to App Suite securely.
- Light, dark or auto, with any theme: Appearance is now a setting of its own, so every theme can be used light or dark, and “Auto” follows your system. Each theme has been tuned for dark mode rather than replaced by a generic dark one, so it keeps its own character. Seven new accent colors join the palette, among them Lime, Cyan and a family of grays from Greige to Steel, and a new “Muted colors” option that works with every color theme replaces the Washed out themes. Administrators can set theme variables for dark mode specifically and decide whether dark mode is offered at all.
- Recover deleted appointments: Calendars now have a Trash. Deleted appointments are kept there, can be previewed before they are restored, and a deletion can be undone.
- Give a mail folder an icon: “Folder icon” in a mail folder's context menu marks it with an icon of your choosing, such as a briefcase, a receipt or an airplane. Like folder colors in Drive, it is personal and shown only in App Suite.
- See your automatic replies coming: In the 10 days before scheduled automatic replies start, a banner above the message list says when they will begin, so the dates and the switch can still be checked in time.
- Swipe to mark as read on smartphones: Swiping an email to the right marks it as read or unread.
- Deputies can send as you: The account owner now decides whether a deputy sends emails in the owner's name or on their behalf. The option is switched on per deployment.
- See who has access to a shared account: The people a shared account is shared with can now be listed from App Suite.
- Cross-context sharing reaches address books: Building on the cross-context collaboration of 8.52 and 8.53, address books can now be shared with users of another context as well. See the feature documentation for further details.
- Send later and snooze with single sign-on: Scheduled sending and snoozed emails now also work for users who log in through OpenID Connect, once they allow the background mail access this needs.
- Names as your organization maintains them: Deployments that maintain display names centrally, for example mapped from LDAP, can show those names throughout App Suite instead of names composed from first and last name. Contact lists, address pickers and search are sorted by them as well. Switched on per deployment.
- Writing email: Email-enabled distribution lists are added as a single recipient that can be expanded on demand. Font sizes are given in points again: the switch to pixels in 8.51 made familiar numbers produce noticeably smaller text. Existing settings are converted back automatically, 9pt, 48pt and 72pt join the list, and the default font size now offers the sizes that suit body text.
- Tables and charts in the AI chat: Answers can now contain line, bar and pie charts and formatted tables.
- Connect Claude and other AI assistants: Claude, on claude.ai and in Claude Code, and other AI clients that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can connect to App Suite through OAuth instead of a pasted key. You consent in App Suite and can revoke each connection separately in the AI settings. Connected clients can work with mail, appointments, tasks and contacts, and changes are previewed and confirmed with you first. Mail and invitations to external addresses are refused by default.
- Hold proposed times while a poll is open: A new Booking Service poll setting reserves each proposed time in your own calendar while the poll runs, so nothing else gets booked over it, and releases the holds when you finalize.
- For administrators: AI Service: A new usage overview page shows token usage, cost against a budget and unique users, with breakdowns per feature, model and brand and a CSV export. AWS Bedrock is now supported with tool calling and reasoning, and PostgreSQL with pgvector can serve as the vector store for Smart Search.
- Review before upgrading: Plain text emails now turn every URL scheme on the middleware's HTML allowlist (
io.ox/mail//whitelist/allowedProtocols) into a link, so review that list. Dragging emails out to the desktop now requires the token-based mechanism (io.ox/core//features/mailDragOutTokenand thedrag_and_drop_httpcapability), and dropping several emails as one ZIP file has been removed. The previous handling of distribution lists can be kept by presettingio.ox/mail//compose/autoResolveDistributionListstotrue. The Tailwind utility classes deprecated in 8.54 will be removed with 8.56. On the middleware side, shared accounts need a new capability to change IMAP subscriptions, and TLS checks are stricter. See Noteworthy Changes for everything to check before upgrading.
A detailed list of changes can be found in the changelogs.
