OpenCloud Drive Integration

With App Suite 8.54, users can integrate an OpenCloud account into Drive.

OpenCloud is an open-source file platform that an organisation runs on its own infrastructure. Users keep their files in spaces — a personal one, plus the shared spaces they are a member of — and reach them over WebDAV.

This page describes what the integration looks like for the end user. For enabling and configuring the OpenCloud file storage, see the App Suite Middleware documentation.

What users can do

• Add the account. In Drive under Add storage account, with the address of the OpenCloud instance and credentials. The address is asked for first, and it can be whatever the user has: a plain host name (https:// is added), or the URL of any page of the OpenCloud web client, which is shortened to the instance — App Suite then completes the WebDAV endpoint it needs. Where that address names a personal space, the user name it carries is offered as a suggestion. The dialog recommends an App Token (OpenCloud: account settings > App Tokens) rather than the account password, since a token is scoped and can be revoked without a password change, and links straight to the page where one is created.
• Browse the account in the folder tree. The account's Personal folder, its Spaces, its Trash and its sharing views (Shared with me, Shared with others, Shared via link) appear with translated names and their own icons; everything below them behaves like any other folder in Drive.
• Share files and folders by link. Existing links are listed in the sharing panel with what they grant, whether they are password protected and when they expire. New links are created from the Share action, with view or edit access, a password — a generated one is filled in, since OpenCloud requires one by default — and an optional expiry date. Copy link and password puts both on the clipboard together. Each link has a menu offering Edit and Remove. Editing changes the name, access level, password and expiry date; leaving the password field empty keeps the one that is set. Removing asks first — a removed link stops working for everyone who has it and cannot be brought back.
• Jump to the file in OpenCloud. Open in OpenCloud opens the selected file or folder in OpenCloud's own web client, in a new browser tab — for the things App Suite does not do itself, such as OpenCloud's activity log or its own editors. With nothing selected it opens the folder you are looking at. It sits in the file details next to the file's other information, in the right-click menu, and in the Drive toolbar. It is not offered where OpenCloud has nothing to open: in the trash, on the account itself, or on the Spaces and Shares folders, which group other folders rather than holding files of their own.
• Restore from the trash. A deleted item can be put back where it came from or removed for good. The actions OpenCloud does not serve from its trash — opening, downloading, copying, moving and thumbnails — are hidden there rather than failing.

Limitations

• The password policy for a link is App Suite's own — by default at least 8 characters with mixed case, a digit and a special character, and a password is required. OpenCloud does not publish its policy, so the server has the final say on what it accepts. Operators can match it — including making the password optional, for a server configured that way — with io.ox/files//opencloud/sharingPasswordPolicy.
